Seeds for Tomorrow Project. Presentation of the Erasmus+ Small scale Project

31st May, 2022 – 15:00 (CEST)

Organizer: Consorzio Promos Ricerche

The event aims at presenting the project "Support Environmental Education for sustainable Development touriSm for tomorrow" SEEDS FOR TOMORROW funded by the Programme ERASMUS+ Small call , project N. 2021-2-IT01-KA210-VET-000049620 and has the general objective to promote the adaptation of European tourism SMEs towards more sustainable, low-carbon and resource-efficient business models by developing green skill and competences. In November 2019, the European Commission presented the European Green Deal, an ambitious plan for making the EU's economy sustainable by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy areas. Especially in the tourism sector, that is recognized to produce significate adverse impacts on the environment, tourism organizations are asked to adopt a greener perspective along all their value chains. In a similar context, the need to avoid confusion and to ensure the effective adoption of sustainability measures within companies' management and operations, have determined the diffusion of green certifications. Obtaining a green certification requires a set of skills able to adequate the company's value chain to the standards required by the certification, to define and communicate more transparent and sustainable tourism offers, to coordinate the interest of companies, tourists and local communities throughout a generally recognized sustainable tourism development direction. A similar skilled figure still misses in many tourism companies, especially in European tourism SMEs. 'Seeds for Tomorrow' wants to develop and promote skills and competencies in the Green Certifications among tourism companies in Italy and Turkey. The focus will be on the EU Ecolabel certification, the European mark used to certify the reduced environmental impact of products or services offered by companies that have obtained its use. During the EU Green Week meeting, there will be presented the main aim of the project and the two core courses to improve green competencies among tourism companies. A first training course is addressed to workers who operate in the field of tourism in Italy and Turkey, to upgrade their skills and competences to support tourism companies in obtaining the EU Ecolabel certification. A second course is addressed to tourism companies in Italy and Turkey, during which the trained workers will guide them towards the process to obtain the EU Ecolabel certification.
